Kazakh Border Guard Massacre Suspect Found Sane

Vladislav Chelakh is accused of killing 15 people.

The Kazakh border guard suspected of killing 14 fellow guards and a forest ranger has been found sane by doctors.

The lawyer for Private Vladislav Chelakh announced the result on July 27, following a psychological test of Chelakh on July 30.

Chelakh this week denied his earlier televised confession that he killed the 15 men, who were found murdered at a remote Chinese-Kazakh border outpost in late May.

The outpost had been burned down.

In another development, relatives of the slain border guards visited the outpost on July 27 to take part in the ceremonial placing of a memorial stone honoring the dead.
