Astana To Simplify Hiring Foreigners

Kazakhstan is introducing legislation intended to simplify the process of hiring foreign workers. The chief of the Kazakh Interior Ministry's Migration Department, Serik Sainov, said September 6 the legislation will be adopted by the end of the year.

In an online press conference organized by the Tengrinews agency, Sainov said the legislation will allow labor migrants to obtain work permits from Kazakhstan’s migration police immediately after signing labor contracts with Kazakh citizens.

The new law outlined by the Interior Ministry will also allow foreign nationals to stay in Kazakhstan for one year instead of the currently allowed six months.

Thousands of labor migrants from Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan travel to Kazakhstan and Russia to work at construction sites, farms, and other places each year.
