Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbaev and visiting European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso have discussed Kazakhstan-EU ties in Astana.

Nazarbaev told journalists after the talks on June 3 that a new agreement between the European Union and Kazakhstan on bilateral cooperation had been discussed at the talks.

According to Nazarbaev, the current bilateral agreement will expire soon.

Nazarbayev said the talks also touched on the subject of easing visa regimes for specific categories of citizens and Kazakhstan’s accession to the World Trade Organization.

He said Kazakhstan’s membership of a customs union with Russia and Belarus should not be an impediment for Astana's trade cooperation with other countries, including the European Union member-states.
