U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has urged all nations to do their part to reach a comprehensive climate change deal next year, warning time is running out to reverse a course "leading to tragedy."
Kerry was speaking on December 11 at the UN Climate Change Conference in Lima.
Delegates in the Peruvian capital are trying to agree on points of a draft 190-nation deal due in Paris in late 2015 to curb rising world greenhouse gas emissions.
Kerry said that a deal in Paris next year would not be a silver bullet to solve the problem of rising temperatures, more heat waves, floods, droughts, and rising sea levels, but it could put the world on the right track.
He also took aim at those who question whether climate change is mainly man-made, saying that scientific findings were overwhelming and "screaming at us."
