Serbian, Kosovo PMs Meet In Brussels

Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic (left) and Kosovo's Prime Minister Hashim Thaci will meet again next month.

The Serbian and Kosovo prime ministers have met under EU auspices in Brussels to discuss progress on normalizing ties and on holding local Kosovo elections on November 3.

EU foreign-policy head Catherine Ashton said both sides at the meeting on August 27 "reiterated their commitment to successful elections...and confirmed they will continue their intensive preparations for a smooth electoral process."

She said the two sides will meet again next month.

Earlier this month, Kosovo Serb leaders threatened to boycott the November 3 vote, saying it was unacceptable if organized under local laws.

Some 40,000 Serbs live in the north and refuse to recognize Pristina's authority after Kosovo declared independence from Serbia in 2008.

The community boycotted the last local polls in 2010.
