The leaders of Kosovo's main political parties have agreed to dissolve the parliament this week and hold snap parliamentary elections in June.
The decision was announced by Prime Minister Hashim Thaci on May 7 after lawmakers failed to agree on the creation of a national army.
Kosovo's constitution stipulates that all important decisions have to be agreed upon by two-thirds of lawmakers, as well as two-thirds of deputies from the ethnic minorities.
The plan to create a 5,000-strong army was not welcomed by the Serbian minority.
Kosovo currently has a civil emergency security force, tasked with crisis response and civil protection.
Kosovo unilaterally proclaimed independence from Serbia in February 2008.
Thaci said the snap election could take place on June 8, instead of a vote planned for November.
