At Least 30 Kurdish Rebels Reported Killed As Turkey Continues Offensive

Turkish media reports say more than 30 Kurdish rebels have been killed in the past 24 hours as Turkey continues its military operations against the rebels after they killed 24 Turkish soldiers this week.

The reports say operations are continuing in Hakkari province in the southeast and in northern Iraq, where the rebel Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) has bases.

More than 50 rebels have been reported killed since military operations began in the wake of the October 19 attack, one of the worst losses of life suffered by the army since the PKK began its armed struggle for independence in southeast Turkey in 1984.

The conflict has claimed more than 40,000 lives.
