Kyrgyz Anticorruption Official's Son Arrested For Alleged Corruption

BISHKEK -- The Kyrgyz Prosecutor-General's Office has announced that the son of a lawmaker employed by the local prosecutor's office in the capital has been arrested on charges of fraud and corruption.

Eldar Madylbekov, who was detained on September 15, is suspected of illegally obtaining property that used to belong to ousted Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiev.

Madylbekov's father, Turatbek Madylbekov, is a chairman of the Kyrgyz parliament's anticorruption committee.

The elder Madylbekov declined to comment to RFE/RL on his son's arrest, saying he had not received any official document pertaining to his son's detention.

Ex-President Bakiev fled Kyrgyzstan after antigovernment protests in April 2010.

He has been residing in exile in Belarus.
