A senior Al-Qaeda leader and son-in-law of Osama bin Laden has pleaded not guilty in a New York court to plotting against Americans.
U.S. officials on March 7 announced the arrest of Sulaiman Abu Ghaith, who was a spokesman for Al-Qaeda after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks against the United States.
At his initial court hearing in New York on March 8, Ghaith entered a “not guilty” plea to one count of conspiracy to kill U.S. citizens.
Prosecutors said their evidence against Ghaith includes video and audio recordings.
Ghaith reportedly was arrested in Jordan and taken to New York after being held in Turkey.
U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said Ghaith's arrest shows that the United States will never stop pursuing Al-Qaeda militants linked to the September 11 attacks.
