Land Mine Kills Two Pakistani Coast Guards

Pakistani officials say two coast guards were killed and three others wounded when their vehicle hit a landmine in the country's southwest.

The incident happened in Balochistan Province, which has long been the scene of a low-level separatist and sectarian insurgencies.

Police officer Mohammad Sajid said the blast destroyed the vehicle and wounded all five guards on January 9.

He said two of the guards died before reaching the hospital.

Mineral-rich Balochistan has long been targeted by militants and Pakistan accuses neighboring India of fueling unrest in the region to hamper Pakistan's development.
