Leaders Of Russia's Turkic Republics Visit Bishkek

BISHKEK -- The leaders of two Russian Turkic republics visited Kyrgyzstan as Bishkek is getting ready to join Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union (EES).

The president of Bashkortostan, Rustem Khamitov, arrived to Kyrgyzstan on a working visit on March 3, and holds talks with Kyrgyz Prime Minister Joomart Otorbaev on March 4.

The press service of the Kyrgyz government said that economic and cultural cooperation between Bashkortostan and Kyrgyzstan is on the agenda.

President Rustam Minnikhanov of Tatarstan, held talks with Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambaev in Bishkek on March 3. The two discussed Tatar-Kyrgyz economic cooperation and Tatarstan's investment into Kyrgyz economy.

Kyrgyzstan, Bashkortostan and Tatarstan share common historic, cultural, linguistic and religious roots.

On March 3, Otorbaev said his country will become a full-fledged member of the EES by May 9.

The EES currently consists of Armenia, which joined the group in January, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia.
