Reports from Poland say the son of former Polish President and Solidarity leader Lech Walesa has been hospitalized with serious injuries following a motorcycle accident.

Officials are quoted as saying Jaroslaw Walesa, 34, was on his motorcycle when he collided with a sport-utility vehicle in Stropkowo in central Poland.

Jaroslaw Walesa was reportedly flown by emergency helicopter to a hospital in Plock, and later to a hospital in Warsaw, for spinal surgery.

Jaroslaw Walesa is one of Lech Walesa's eight children. He was elected to the Polish parliament in 2005 and won a seat in the European Parliament in 2009.

Lech Walesa was leader of the Solidarity trade union that helped topple communism in Poland in 1989, and he won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1983 for his role as leader of the pro-democracy struggle.
