WATCH: The Russian Embassy In Libya Comes Under Attack

The Libyan foreign minister said two Libyan assailants were killed when a mob attacked Russia's embassy in Tripoli on October 2.

Mohamed Abdelaziz said he urged embassy staff not to spend another night in the compound for fear of a second assault.

The Russian Foreign Ministry says embassy workers and their families have been evacuated and that they safely crossed the border into Tunisia on October 3.

The ministry said the decision to evacuate the embassy was made after Abdelaziz told the Russian ambassador that Libya was unable to protect the diplomatic mission.

The mob attack reportedly came in response to the death of a Libyan air force officer, who was allegedly killed by a Russian woman. None of the Russian diplomats and their relatives was injured in the attack.
