Bosnia has arrested 25 people in what police call the “biggest and the most complex” crackdown on organized crime since the 1992-95 war.
The head of the national investigation agency, Goran Zubac, said the September 12 police operation marked "the start of the end of organized crime" in the country.
The criminal group is suspected of drug trafficking, money laundering, murders of police officers, as well as acts of banditism and abuse of power.
Some 400 police officers took part in the operation, which saw searches carried out in 30 locations throughout the country.
Organized crime flourished in the Balkans alongside wars that tore apart Yugoslavia in the 1990s.
The so-called Balkan route is used by criminals to smuggle drugs, weapons, and people toward Western Europe.
