Member Of Ousted Thai Government Arrested

Thai security forces have detained the education minister in the ousted government after openly defying a junta summons to turn himself in.

Chaturon Chaisang was detained in Bangkok on May 27 after five days of hiding as he gave a press briefing to journalists.

The military seized power in Thailand last week after nearly seven months of political turmoil as protesters tried to oust the government of Yingluck Shinawatra.

At least 28 people were killed over the course of the protests.

Chadron is one of dozens of politicians, academics, and activists who were summoned to report to the military after the coup.

The junta said on May 27 that Shinawatra was released from detention and allowed to return home in the first official confirmation of her whereabouts since she was detained.
