U.S. President Donald Trump told German Chancellor Angela Merkel that he has "strong support" for NATO, but that allies "must pay what they owe." Trump, speaking during Merkel's first visit to Washington during his presidency, told a joint news conference on March 17 that the situation was "very unfair to the United States." Merkel welcomed Trump's support of NATO, and the peace process in Ukraine, and added that "Germany needs to increase its expenditure" on defense. (AP/REUTERS)
