More Russian Police Charged With Torture

Russian police have been facing increased scrutiny after the death of a man in custody in Kazan last month.

Russia's Investigative Committee has announced that several police officers were charged with torture in the Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk.

According to the committee, the police officers tortured a suspect with electric shock in February to make him confess his alleged involvement in a theft.

The announcement comes a day after prosecutors in another Siberian city, Irkutsk, said several local police officers are being investigated for their alleged attempt to cover up a deadly clash between detained suspects in custody last week.

On April 4, it was announced that three Moscow police officers are expected to face trial for allegedly using a gas mask to torture a female murder suspect last year.
