India has expressed disappointment with the 35-year sentence given to an American national for his role in the 2008 terrorist attack in the country's financial capital, Mumbai.
Raj Kumar Singh, a senior home affairs official, said on January 25 that everybody involved in the conspiracy to kill people in Mumbai deserved death.
Indian Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid said that David Coleman Headly deserved more than the 35-year prison sentence handed down on January 24 by a U.S. court.
He reiterated that New Delhi will continue to press for Headley's extradition to face a trial in India.
Headly, 52, an American national of Pakistani origin, had pleaded guilty to gathering information on potential targets in Mumbai on behalf of Pakistani militants.
Some 160 people died in the three day rampage in November 2008.
