Pakistani police have filed a new murder charge against former President Pervez Musharraf. Officials said on September 2 that the case relates to the death of radical cleric Abdul Rashid Ghazi during the siege of an Islamabad mosque in 2007.

More than 100 people were killed when troops stormed the compound after a standoff between troops and hard-line Islamists. It is the latest in a series of charges dating back to the retired general's 1999-2008 rule.

Currently under house arrest, Musharraf also faces murder charges over the deaths of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto in 2007 and a Baloch tribal leader in 2006. He also faces charges relating to his attempt to sack judges in 2007.

Musharraf says the cases against him are politically motivated.
