Security forces in Nairobi are reported to be in a standoff with gunmen after an attack on a shopping mall in the Kenyan capital.
At least 39 people were killed when the Somali Islamist group al Shabaab launched its assault on Nairobi's Westgate mall, which is frequented by Westerners as well as Kenyans. More than 300 people were wounded in the raid on September 21.
The gunmen are reported to be holding an unspecified number of hostages.
France said two of its citizens were dead and Canada said two Canadians had died, including a diplomat. The U.S. State Department said it had reports that American citizens had been hurt, and Britain said its nationals had undoubtedly been affected.
The UN Security Council has condemned the attack in the "strongest possible terms."
