A six-ton NASA satellite has returned to Earth, plunging through the atmosphere and breaking apart, possibly scattering some debris over Canada.
The U.S. space agency was still trying to determine the exact location of where any pieces may have fallen.
But residents near Okotoks, a town south of Calgary in western Canada, sent out messages saying debris had fallen in their area.
The 5,897-kilogram satellite was a scientific observatory -- Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite -- which NASA used for 20 years to study conditions at the highest altitudes of the Earth's atmosphere.
