The commander of NATO forces in Afghanistan says the alliance will comply with Afghan President Hamid Karzai's desire to ban Afghan security forces from seeking NATO air support when battling insurgents in villages.
U.S. General Joseph Dunford, who took charge of the U.S.-led NATO force a week ago, told reporters in Kabul on February 17 that the organization was “prepared to provide support in line with the president's intent."
On February 16, Karzai said he would issue a decree that "none of the Afghan military forces, under any condition can call in foreigners’ air support during the military operations on our villages.”
