Israeli negotiators arrived in Cairo on August 11 for indirect negotiations with the Palestinian militant group Hamas on a durable truce in Gaza.
The two sides agreed on August 10 to a new 72-hour cease-fire to give the talks a chance to proceed.
Egypt brokered a similar truce last week, but fighting resumed after the three-day window ended on August 8.
The skies over Gaza remained calm on August 11, with no reports of violations on any side.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said the cease-fire would allow humanitarian aid into battered Gaza neighborhoods.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had said his government would not attend the talks in Cairo as long as Palestinian rocket and mortar attacks against Israel continued to be launched from Gaza.
