NYC Police Say Piece Of 9/11 Plane Found

Police in New York City say they have found a piece of airplane landing gear they believe came from one of the hijacked planes used in the attacks on the World Trade Centers nearly 12 years ago.

New York City Police Department spokesman Paul Browne said the metal part has clear markings on it that say Boeing Co. and an identification number.

The large metal fragment was found wedged between two buildings not far from the site where the towers once stood.

Police have cordoned off the area and called for the Office of the Chief Medical Inspector to send personnel to the scene to check for health and safety hazards and also for possible human remains.

The wreckage was discovered on April 24.
