The United States says it will adopt a wait-and-see approach to the new Hizballah-dominated Lebanese government.
After five months of negotiations, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati on June 13 announced a new 30-member cabinet in which the militant group and its allies hold a majority.
The United States considers Hizballah, which is backed by Iran and Syria, as a terrorist organization.
State Department spokesman Mark Toner said the United States will judge the new government "by its actions" and urged it to support the UN tribunal investigating the assassination of Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri in a 2005 bombing largely blamed on Syria.
Hizballah brought down the previous, pro-Western government after it refused to disavow the Special Tribunal for Lebanon.
The tribunal is widely expected to indict Hizballah over Hariri's assassination.
