U.S. President Barack Obama has begun the first summer vacation of his second term, traveling to the Massachusetts island of Martha's Vineyard for a nine-day holiday.
People lined both sides of a two-lane road on August 10 outside of Edgartown, Massachusetts as Obama's motorcade sped him and First Lady Michelle Obama away from where a helicopter landed them.
They are staying in a six-bedroom home Obama has rented in the town of Chilmark.
White House press secretary Jay Carney said Obama will receive regular briefings on national security and domestic issues.
National security adviser Susan Rice and Rob Nabors, a deputy chief of staff, are among the small contingent of White House aides who will be with Obama during the vacation.
Obama is due back in Washington on August 18.
