U.S. President Barack Obama is urging Iran to take "immediate” steps to reduce tensions with the international community over its nuclear program.
Obama made the call in a video released on March 18 as the Iranian people prepare to celebrate Nowruz starting later this week.
"Now is the time for the Iranian government to take immediate and meaningful steps to reduce tensions and work toward an enduring, long-term settlement of the nuclear issue," the U.S. president said.
Obama said that if Iran took such action "the Iranian people will begin to see the benefits of greater trade and ties with other nations, including the United States."
Later this week the president will visit Israel and Jordan, where Iran's nuclear program is expected to be high on his agenda.
