Earlier on March 22, Obama was accompanied by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for his trip to the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial Center.
He also laid wreaths at the graves of Theodore Herzl, the founder of modern Zionism, and Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, who was shot dead by a Jewish fanatic opposed to peace with the Palestinians.
Obama also visited the biblical birthplace of Jesus in Bethlehem.
