Three Kazakhs, One Belarusian Stripped Of 2012 Olympic Medals

Belarus's Maryna Shkermankova competes in the women's 69Kg Group A weightlifting competition at the ExCel venue at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) says that three female weightlifters from Kazakhstan have been stripped of Olympic gold medals they won in London in 2012 for failing anti-doping tests.

The IOC issued the statement on October 27, saying that Kazakh athletes Maia Maneza, Zulfia Chishanlo, and Svetlana Podobedova had been disqualified after reanalysis of their 2012 samples produced positive results for prohibited substances.

The Belarusian weightlifter Maryna Shkermankova was stripped of her London 2012 bronze medal for the same reason.

Also disqualified were two other Belarusian weightlifters, a Russian hammer thrower, and a Russian pole vaulter, none of whom won medals in 2012.
