Judge Stops Ashraf From Working As Cricket Board Chief

A judge has stopped Zaka Ashraf from working as chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board after his election was challenged in Islamabad’s High Court.

On May 28, Judge Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui accepted a petition complaining that Ashraf’s election earlier this month by the sport’s 11-member board was illegal because the vote took place without representation from Punjab Province.

Siddiqui ruled that the "entire process” of Ashraf’s election “appeared to be motivated and polluted." The judge also said the situation would be complicated if Ashraf becomes the Pakistan Cricket Board’s chairman "as a result of a dubious and nontransparent election."

Siddiqui has scheduled a hearing in the case for June 13 and told Ashraf not to perform any duties as chairman until then.
