Police in northwestern Pakistan say at least six people have been killed in the explosion of a car bomb in the city of Peshawar.

Seven other people were reported injured in the January 23 blast in the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province.

Police said the explosives-laden car blew up at a vehicle repair shop.

Police said it was not immediately clear whether the shop was the intended target or if the device exploded prematurely.

It was not clear who was responsible for the explosives.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which borders Afghanistan, is part of a region that has seen scores of bomb and gun attacks carried out by Islamist militants in the past decade.
