Indian Spy On Death Row Attacked In Prison

A Pakistani prison official says a convicted Indian spy on death row was critically injured when he was attacked inside a prison in the eastern city of Lahore.

Provincial prisons chief Farooq Nazir said that Sarabjit Singh sustained a serious head injury when he was attacked on April 26 with bricks and blades by two other inmates at Kot Lakhpat jail.

Nazir said Singh was moved to hospital, where he was receiving treatment.

Singh was arrested in 1990 for his role in a series of bombings in the Pakistani cities of Lahore and Faisalabad that killed 14 people.

He was convicted of spying and carrying out the bomb blasts before being sentenced to death in 1991.

Former military ruler General Pervez Musharraf rejected his petition for clemency in 2008.
