Pakistani Prisoner Attacked In Kashmir Jail

One day after the death of an Indian prisoner in Pakistan, officials in Indian Kashmir say a Pakistani prisoner in a local jail sustained severe head injuries after being beaten by another inmate.

They said Sanaullah Haq remains in critical condition.

Islamabad condemned the May 3 incident and called on India to punish the assailant.

Haq has been serving a life sentence on murder charges for militancy-related crimes.

His attacker was identified as Vinod Kumar, who was also serving a life term for murder.

The Indian prisoner who died on May 2, Sarabjit Singh, was convicted of spying and bombings in Pakistan.

Singh was hospitalized last week after being attacked by two inmates in a jail in the eastern Pakistani city of Lahore.

India accused Pakistan of not doing enough to protect Singh.
