Pakistani Military Officer Shot Dead In Peshawar

A Pakistan military has been shot dead in the northwestern city of Peshawar in an attack claimed by the Pakistani Taliban.

Local police official Kashif Zulfiqar told RFE/RL that Colonel Tariq Ghafoor was killed on March 11 while on his way to a nearby mosque.

Zulfiquar said a probe into the killing had been launched.

The Pakistani Taliban, Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan, claimed responsibility for the attack in an e-mail sent to RFE/RL.
