Pakistan’s interim prime minister has been sworn into office to oversee the country’s elections scheduled for May 11.
Retired judge Mir Hazar Khan Khoso, 84, was selected by the Election Commission after political parties failed to agree on a candidate for the post.
Pakistan's Election Commission chose Khoso from a list of four candidates proposed by the incumbent prime minister and the leader of the parliamentary opposition.
Khoso will choose an interim cabinet and hold office until a successor is chosen by the lower house of parliament after elections.
The upcoming elections will be the first democratic transition of power in the history of the country, which has seen three military coups and four military rulers since it was established in 1947.
