More Than 20 Killed In Quetta Attack

Police in the southern Pakistani city of Quetta are saying that more than 20 people have been killed in an attack that appears to have targeted a Shi’ite mosque.

Local police officer Fayaz Sumbal said the first explosion was caused by a grenade that caused people to run to the nearby Imam Bargah Mosque, where a suicide bomber was waiting to detonate explosives.

More than 60 people were reported wounded in the attack.

The attack happened in a neighborhood dominated by the Hazara, a Shi’ite people of Mongolian ancestry.

There has been an increase in sectarian violence in the Quetta area in the past two years that has killed hundreds of people, mainly Shi’ite Muslims.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for this latest attack.
