Two Pakistani-born brothers accused in a plot to detonate a bomb in New York City to avenge deaths caused by U.S. drone attacks in Afghanistan have pleaded guilty to federal terrorism charges.
The ruling on March 12 by the U.S. federal court in Miami was against 22-year-old Raees Alam Qazi and 32-year-old Sheheryar Alam Qazi.
Both were arrested in 2012 and charged with providing support to Al-Qaeda to use a weapon of mass destruction.
The brothers are naturalized U.S. citizens who were living in Florida at the time of their arrest.
The two pleaded guilty to providing material support to terrorists and conspiring to assault a federal employee.
The younger brother faces a maximum prison sentence of 35 years followed by supervised release for life, while the older brother faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison followed by supervised release for life.
The court is scheduled to sentence the two on June 5.
