Khar Says Pakistan Willing To Push Militants Into Afghan Peace Talks

Pakistan's Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar

Pakistan's foreign minister says her country is ready to push the Taliban and other insurgent groups to enter negotiations to end the war in Afghanistan -- but only after the Afghan people agree on the outline of a solution to the conflict.

Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar, speaking on February 2, said Pakistan is ready to provide whatever peace assistance it can "once the Afghan people decide the way forward."

Her comments came after she held talks in Kabul on February 1 with Afghan President Hamid Karzai.

The talks were aimed at building trust between the two neighboring countries, amid concerns that Pakistan could be hampering peace efforts in Afghanistan by assisting militants from the Taliban and the Haqqani network.
