Pakistan Mourns Former First Lady Bhutto

Thousands of mourners led by President Asif Ali Zardari have turned out for the burial of former Pakistani first lady Nusrat Bhutto in the family's mausoleum in southern Sindh province on October 24.

Pakistan has declared a 10-day period of national holidays to mourn the widow of former Prime Minister and President Zulfikar Ali Bhutto who was executed in 1979.

Nusrat Bhutto died aged 82 in Dubai on October 23. She was herself elected twice to the Pakistani parliament and led the Pakistan People's Party (PPP), until her daughter, Benazir Bhutto, took over in the mid-1980s.

Benazir Bhutto, a former prime minister, was assassinated in 2007 after her return to Pakistan from exile. Her husband, Asif Ali Zardari, is now Pakistan's president.
