Pakistani Prime Minister Visiting India

Pakistani Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf

Raja Pervez Ashraf is making his first visit to rival India since becoming Pakistani prime minister.

Ashraf arrived in the western city of Jaipur on March 9 before making a brief pilgrimage to a revered Muslim shrine in the nearby town of Ajmer.

Indian Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid hosted a lunch for Ashraf in Jaipur but officials earlier said "no substantive discussions" were planned during the visit.

Tensions between India and Pakistan rose earlier this year after six soldiers on both sides were killed in violence along the Line of Control, the de-facto border in the disputed Kashmir region.

Ashraf is to return later on March 9 to Islamabad.
