Polish Official '99 Percent' Sure Missing Nazi Gold Train Found

Poland's deputy culture minister has said he is "99 percent sure" he saw a long-missing Nazi train filled with gold, jewels, and other treasures in a ground-penetrating radar image.

Local lore says a train full of riches stolen by the Nazis went missing around the city of Walbrzych while it was fleeing the Red Army in 1945.

Fortune-hunters have searched for the so-called "gold train" for decades.

Recently, a Pole and a German claim to have found an armored train with valuables in a disused tunnel and demanded a financial reward.

Deputy Culture Minister Piotr Zuchowski called it an "exceptional" discovery after seeing the radar image.

The World Jewish Congress warned that if items were stolen from Jews, they should be returned to their owners or heirs.

Zuchowski said the two men who discovered the train have the right to claim a finder's fee of 10 percent of the value of the train's contents.

"The fact that this train is armored suggests there could be valuable objects inside," he said.
