Officials in Russia's North Caucasus region of Daghestan are blaming militants for an ambush that left five policemen wounded.
Daghestan's Investigative Committee said attackers used rocket-propelled grenades and automatic weapons in their assault on two police vehicles early on December 18 near the village of Chontaul.
The committee said the injuries to the policemen were not severe and all were expected to recover.
In Moscow, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev said on December 18 it was becoming more difficult to "track down and neutralize" militants in the North Caucasus.
Patrushev said militants there "changed their tactics" and "are now operating in small isolated groups."
Patrushev said the change in tactics showed the militants are less organized.
