Police In Siberia Investigated For Alleged Torture

Russia's federal Investigative Committee says it is investigating police in Siberia who allegedly tortured suspects with electric shocks and nearly suffocated them with gas masks.

Four current and one former police officer in the town of Mogocha are accused of torturing suspects to extract confessions during the last three years.

Also on April 25, officials in Russia’s central city of Yekaterinburg said two police were arrested on charges of beating suspects.

Reports of police brutality have been rising in Russia since a scandal last month in the city of Kazan, where a man died in custody after being beaten and raped with a champagne bottle.
