Poland’s highest court has acquitted three Polish soldiers facing war crimes charges over the killing of civilians in Afghanistan.
The court, however, also ruled on March 14 that four other Polish soldiers will face a retrial in connection with the case.
The seven soldiers had been tried over a 2007 incident in an Afghan village in which several civilians, including women and children, were killed.
In June of last year, a Polish court cleared the seven soldiers of war crimes, but prosecutors appealed to the Supreme Court.
All the soldiers have pleaded not guilty in the case, which marks the first time Polish soldiers have been accused of violating international war conventions.
