Egyptian state media have reported that police have arrested a top Muslim Brotherhood figure in an ongoing crackdown on the Islamist group.
Mohammed el-Beltagy, a former lawmaker who has made public appeals for protests against the new military-backed government, was arrested in a village near Cairo on August 29.
The Qatari-owned Al-Jazeera television station aired a video recording on August 29 in which Beltagy urges people to join rallies against the military on Friday, August 30.
He was wanted on a number of charges, including inciting violence and terrorism.
Police have already arrested the brotherhood's supreme guide Muhammad Badie and much of its senior leadership.
The crackdown on the group began after the military deposed President Muhammad Morsi, a Muslim Brotherhood member, on July 3.
