Two Soldiers Killed In Roadside Bomb Attack In Southwest Pakistan

Military police say a roadside bomb explosion has killed two soldiers in southwest Pakistan.

Police said in a statement on July 15 that the attack took place overnight at the Khuda Baksh Bazaar in Pasni, a district of the impoverished province of Balochistan. An operation to apprehend those responsible was still under way, the statement said.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, but the statement said hostile intelligence forces were behind the violence.

Previous such attacks have been blamed on small separatist groups that have been involved in a long-running insurgency seeking independence from the central government.

The Pakistani Taliban and the Islamic State group also have a presence in Balochistan.

Attacks on troops have increased in recent months in Balochistan, which shares a long border with Iran and Afghanistan.

Last month, five soldiers were killed after gunmen targeted a patrol in Balochistan's Sibi district.
