Roadside Bomb Kills At Least 18 In Afghanistan

Afghan police say at least 18 civilians, including children, were killed when their minibus ran over a roadside bomb in southern Helmand province on July 28.

The vehicle was traveling from Nahr-e-Saraj district to the provincial capital of Lashkar Gah.

Improvised explosive devices are the Taliban's weapon of choice.

According to the United Nations, roadside bomb explosions were to blame for at least 440 of the estimated 1,462 civilian deaths by violence since the beginning of the year in Afghanistan.
