Conservative Iohannis Poised To Win Runoff For Romanian Presidency

Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta has conceded defeat to conservative rival Klaus Iohannis in that country's presidential runoff election.

Ponta said he had called conservative rival Klaus Iohannis and congratulated him.

Earlier, exits polls had suggested a very close race, and first results were not expected until after midnight.

Ponta had comfortably beat the center-right mayor Iohannis in the first round on November 2 and led opinion polls ahead of the vote on November 16.

The winner will replace outgoing President Traian Basescu.
