Russian Government Approves List Of 40 Mandatory Apps For Electronic Devices

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin on August 3 approved a list of 40 apps that must be preinstalled on all computers, mobile phones, tablets, and smart TV sets as of January 1, 2024. The list includes apps of state-controlled television channels, the Mir payment system, and Russia-based social networks. Retailers of devices that do not have the apps preinstalled face a fine of up to 200,000 rubles ($2,140). The move was made in accordance with a law adopted in 2021 that says that the Digital Development Ministry decides what apps must be preinstalled on devices sold in Russia.
