Russia has described the genocide conviction of former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic as "politicized."
Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov made the comment in an interview with Interfax that was made public on March 25, one day after a UN court in The Hague convicted Karadzic of genocide and nine other charges, and sentenced him to 40 years in prison.
Gatilov accused the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) of bias, saying it was overlooking “crimes by Kosovar leaders and the military."
"We consider that such a slant in the activity of the tribunal is unacceptable," he added.
Karadzic, the most senior political figure to be convicted by the ICTY, was found guilty of orchestrating Serb atrocities throughout Bosnia's 1992-95 war that left some 100,000 people dead.
